Sorry Xanga... I want pictures
| Now then... last weekend had been very very busy... I wished i had more time to my dental work... But no!!! oh well, i had heaps of fun.
It all started on friday night. Natasha wanted to celebrate her birthday, so she invited a bunch of us dent students during our regular human biology lab to go to a Jazz club that night. The thing was, I really wanted to go to that jazz club for a long time, so i was really looking forward to the prospect of live jazz performances. Of course, with Tara being invited, we head down to Natasha's room at around 9.00. And we couldnt find her room everywhere, I unfortunately didn't have her number, and Tara forgot the room number, so we head down to the jazz club ourselves, and sure enough, the rest of the troup arrives in about 30 minutes.
Inside, was a restaurant, and the jazz club was upstairs, as we walk up the spiral staircase, we get to see the stage, and the live performer and jazz band honking their trumpets and tapping snares. I sat, i chatted and enjoyed the music, as well as the company of my dent friends there. The strangest part... although i should be used to it by now, is the fact that when Thanh showed up, basically the camera was out, and she was snapping away, which forced me to retaliate by snapping photos all away. And now xanga took away their photo hosting, i cant show any to you oh well, live with my words for now! Strange things happened that night, if your lucky enough to see my collection of photos when I arrive back in melbourne, you'll know why!
The next day, I woke up nice and early and went down with Cat, Mark, Amanda, Jasmine and Merridy down to rundle mall to go shopping for the upcoming Lincoln College Ball which was to occur in exactly 7 days from that point. We had all bought our tickets and were pretty much ready to buy something, except me, because I have already organised what I am going to wear, which is a dark - charcoal grey suit, with a maroon shirt and a silver tie, try to be as funky as possible, see how that goes!!!!! Once at Rundle, we split up, Mark, Cat and I went suit shopping for Mark, as Cat had already obtained a dress. Peter Shearers was our last and most successful stop, where we met Ross, an interesting salesperson who had the daunting task of suggesting items for the very Picky mark to buy. His focus was a shirt and tie. The very first shirt tried was a Black shirt with white pinstripes going vertically, and that looked QUITE awesome, so awesome that I was tempted to pull out my wallet, only to find that I didn't have money. Mark ended up buying it anyways so I couldnt buy it, and also after like 2 hours of deliberations and trying on different shirts and ties, Ross eventually got him to wear a Brown shirt with a brownish tie with multicoloured stripes. Under a Black Suit jacket, it also looked very cool. He ended up buying the two shirts and the tie. 240 all up it costed him, he was very scared of his Dad.
That night, we headed off to Elder Hall to watch Jasmine perform with her choir "Bella Voce" in the concert entitles "Music for the Masses". It reminded me of my High School days when massed singing was a regular and a certain part of school life. The massed singing really reminded me of the winter concerts we have when huge choirs of like 200 people singing in Robert Blackwood hall. But I enjoyed the night. All these events don't sound as exciting as my last few posts do they, well i'm trying to cut down and get down with some Real Dentistry work, but i'm getting really lazy. Help Me!!!
By the ways people, i'll be back in melbourne on the 19th of September at 6.00 am in the city, then i have to catch a train back home. So since its so early, i guess a ride from one of you is out of the question heheh
| The reason these entries are so close together is because I haven't had time to do them weekly like I hoped, so i'm going to make this one as short as possible, and continue these weblogs weekly.
Weeks 2-3 of Adelaide (up to the 14th of August) has been a frantic but boring two weeks. Academically, I failed my biostats test (which needs to be resit) and also got my biology assignment back today. So far, it looks like a distinction average in biology . The main highlights of the week were two things:
Thing #1: The beginning of a new Fitness Regime: To most people who know me well, this will remind you of the short lived gym expeditions I had during my time at MHS. That time i got fairly fit... and very quickly (meaning after VCE was finished) i reverted back to my lazy and skinny physique. It started with a Pushup and situp routine... Fairly simple right? wrong!! My revertedness made it quite tough to do both of these and it pissed me off to begin with. But it seemed to improve and improve. So I complemented this with 3-4km jogs 5 times a week. A friend here has the 'beep test' tape on CD, and last term (when i wasn't doing a fitness routine), and i got a crummy score of level 5-5. Now after 4 days of this routine, a group of us did this beep test again. Now... when this happened, i wasn't really feeling too well so i pushed and pushed... until i could push no more. I stopped thinking "Crap, did i do worse?". I then realised we had spectators, this was my chance to ask. 6-4 they said! I'm like WOOHOO.
Thing #2: Hana's Birthday Party Another dentistry student had her birthday on Tuesday, so the plan was to have a dinner on Friday. It all started with looking for a pressie for her. A "charm" shop was found in Rundle Mall, so we had a look, and there were a whole bunch of pretty trinket boxes that could have potential. Until we saw the pricetags on most of them.
We found one item, a small trinket box, with coloured crystals and a lid with a butterfly shape, and we split the cost between 3 people and made it affordable. I also saw a hindu "om" symbol that can be welded onto a chain, made of sterling silver. If I have the money, i'm going back to the shop and get them to make me a silver chain with that. The dinner was just an average dinner in a restaurant called Bocelli in Hutt Street of Adelaide, except, in Hana style, she decided to make a face with the remainder of her pizza that she ordered and using the olives to make eyes and mouth...

And took photos of it. A surprise which i only found out on the day was Karaoke. They had apparently booked two hours of Karaoke.

I was quite excited. Inside, I'll give a list of songs I sang: - Something Stupid - with Yong and Minho - P Diddy - I Need a Girl - with Chung - Justin Timberlake - Like I Love you - with Chung - Grand Finale - Linkin Park - In the End - with Min-Ho
Of course, because of the last song, my throat was sore and dry. Many other songs were sung that night, but most were in chinese or korean so yea I had my fair share in that two hours . On our way back, we had to escort Chung back to his college, because he lost his external key to enter the college, and needed our phones to call someone to open for him. All in all, a fairly entertaining night in Adelaide Please, no bagging it!!!
| Well well well.... its been a while so this is gonna be one long entry. The first thing I did as I entered adelaide soil was to touch down, and unpack my room at my good ol' residential college. For those who don't know, we basically have to vacate our rooms every holidays to save money... grrrr... so annoying. But then its all good, coz i meet up with a few friends and go play golf. Me not being the golfing type, we jus play at the crappy par 3 golf course next to the "real" course. Of course, the fact that uni started the next day didn't phase us at all, we kept on the ball, and of course.... out of sheer luck and lunacy, i win the golf game. I don't remember the score, but I was 5 shots less than the closest guy .
The week of uni was very boring, all introductory lectures on our new teaching staff for the semester and all the new assignments, and new manuals and all that crap. grr... sooo many books to carry, and all the manuals were a lot larger than last semesters... flicking through them, one of them was also one sided printing... which according to our lecturer was a printing error, so it was twice as big as its supposed to be. Damn that. So even without textbooks, we had to carry these huge heavy manuals all day every day. However the fun parts of the week were yet to come.
Fun part of week 1 part 1: Clinic Visits: Because we are meant to be aware of the dental profession in South Australia, we were given the task to visit 3 different types of dental clinics in this week. Unfortunately due to a timetabling stuff up, I only got the chance to visit two different types of clinics.... another groan there for me. Visit 1 was to a private practice clinic at Glenelg south. Which meant one thing, going on the ONLY tram in adelaide down to glenelg!!! Pretty similar to the light rail system we have in melbourne i reckon. I wanted to go see Glenelgs beutiful beaches that day, but unfortunately, after the visit, I had to go back to uni for a lecture. I go there and introduce myself, and I meet a brilliant, but slow dentist, and I got to see for myself crown and bridge work, general exams and a filling. Pretty fun to see what i'm gonna be doin for the rest of my life. I also learnt about the pressures and stresses of the dental profession. It seemed full on, but I can see how it helps people more and more. But damn, i really wanted to see that beach!!!! Clinic visit number 2 was to a school dental clinic. Which meant going on the train. The train is so small and takes sooo long to get to stations... I think they only go maybe 40-50 kmph. But I get there and what do i see? Little snobby kids throwing small tantrums about getting fillings. But all in all, they were pretty co-operative. I've been told from many sources that small tantrums like that are nothing compared to the children they get with dental phobias and they are completely uncooperative. Of course, theres also high school kids who were surprising talking about getting orthodontic treatments etc. I was surprised, and then afterwards i wasn't. I had an epiphany... if thats how you spell it... damn my bad english skills. Basically, I realised that I don't think i'll be doing school dental clinics when i graduated. Maybe if i learn hypnosis then i'll be a school dentist. At the train station on the way back, i stand on the "city bound" platform... or so i thought. See, normally i go on the platform to the left of the direction i'm heading in. So a train passes which is going in the other direction. So i think, i'm on the right platform, but then a few minutes later, a train comes back to that same platform. I was like "SHIT" and start running to try and catch the train on the other platform. It seemed quite odd. Funnily enough, the train conductor saw me running, and radioed the driver not to leave until i got on! so i was very lucky.
Well well well they were my clinic visits, fun for the whole family
Fun part of week 1 part 2: Re-Oweek Pub Crawl: Well i'm not much of a drinker, but the reason i went is to see what happens to the drunkards of college.

Amanda, Cat and Jasmine are the wonderful ladies in the picture above.
Well it started off like a typical friday night, where the underage friends of mine start consuming "the drinks" and so far, no-one is inebriated (look it up). Our first stop for us being the prestigious UniBar! where the fun began, and Cat (left) and Amanda(right) took the first steps in drinking for the night with their first "cowboy" shots.

I don't remember but i think thats a mix of baileys and something else. Thats when the effects of alcohol started kicking in for me. I dunno, maybe i have a small liver, but 2 bottles of beer seemed to hit me a bit after a while at the UniBar. But I was sober enough to enjoy a game of darts, and to watch the really really bad karaoke.
Stop number two was the Mansions bar in the heart of the city, where it seemed more like a nightclub than a bar, if i remember correctly, a nice dancefloor with disco lighting. The unfortunate thing was, when we left, we left Jasmine behind, and didn't realise until we were at the next stop (Hungry Jacks) so, we made the trek back to Mansions fending off the hungry and drunk people who were walking out from there. We of course found her and continue on to the next bar, the Griffin's Head. The griffins head really reminded me of a bar i've been to before, but i forget which one that is. I hear tales of one person who gave money to someone to buy her a drink, instead, he used her money to buy himself a jug. Pretty tight, i heard a lot of complaining about that. Tara dropped a 2 dollar coin off the 1 storey balcony onto the road. She went all the way down to recover it, and Mark got it on with chick (quite surprising at first), or so we thought, but i say good on ya.

The very very last bar of the night was the East End Exchange. The med school bar, which many of them were accustomed to, and knew their way around. Of course being a friday night, we also met some other dental students, not from college there, and we all had a ball, and of course, i was still under the influence, pretty much until i got home, but not really if you know what i mean.
Well then, thats week one of my Adelaide Experience, I hope you enjoy it all
| Hello, this is my first post everyone... Since internet in adelaide bloody costs me money, i probably won't be putting up one a day like some people... But its all cool i'll keep you all posted on my Semester two dental studies and happenings.
